National Trust for Historic Preservation
Description The National Trust supports preservation through a wide range of programs and activities. It:
  • Operates a nationwide collection of National Trust Historic Sites;
  • Demonstrates how preservation can revitalize historic downtowns through programs such as the National Main Street Center, and National Trust Community Partners, which uses preservation to provide affordable housing in older residential neighborhoods;
  • Provides technical and financial assistance to state and local organizations;
  • Promotes travel to historic destinations through its National Trust Study Tours and National Trust Historic Hotels of America, and its heritage tourism consulting program;
  • Works on Capitol Hill and in state legislatures and city halls on issues and initiatives to encourage the adoption of laws and policies that support preservation;
  • Goes to court to ensure that preservation laws are upheld; and
  • Teaches people about the benefits of preservation through workshops and other educational programs, including the nation's largest preservation conference and the award-winning Preservation magazine.
